Rider Coaching with Angela

You know your horse better than anyone. So when something doesn’t feel quite right, a tension you can’t explain, a resistance that keeps creeping back, a partnership that feels harder than it should, you know. You just can’t always work out why.

My coaching is about more than fixing problems in the moment. It’s about building a real understanding of your horse and your riding, the kind that stays with you long after the session is over.

With over 35 years in the equestrian world, training alongside some of the country’s top coaches, and a deep understanding of equine behaviour and classical training, I work with riders on an ongoing basis, getting to know horse and rider properly, building on each session, and helping things genuinely develop over time.

As an independent bit fitting consultant, I’m also uniquely placed to identify whether any training challenges may have their roots in the horse’s comfort and way of going. It’s a level of insight that most coaches simply aren’t able to offer, and one that can make a real difference when something just isn’t adding up.

My Approach

Calm, patient, and genuinely invested in your progress.

My coaching is built around helping you develop real self awareness in the saddle. Understanding what your body is doing, how your aids are being received, and why your horse is responding the way they are.

Every session ends with something practical to take away and work on. Clear explanations, step by step guidance, and a focus on meaningful communication between you and your horse rather than quick fixes that don’t last.

Sessions are warm, pressure free, and tailored entirely around you and your horse. I work with riders of all abilities and am experienced in working with neurodivergent riders.

What I Can Help With

  •  A horse that’s resistant, tense, or inconsistent in the contact.
  • Loss of rhythm, balance, or straightness that keeps coming back.
  • Evasions that have crept in and won’t shift.
  • A partnership that feels like hard work rather than harmony.
  • Riders who are new to young horses. learning how to handle the unpredictability, build trust, and lay the right foundations from the start.
  • Confidence that’s taken a knock and needs rebuilding gently, at your pace and nobody else’s.
  • Working towards your next dressage level. As a trainee British Dressage judge, I know exactly what’s needed at every level and can help you get there with a real judge’s eye on your side.

Regular coaching for riders who simply want to improve, develop, and enjoy their riding more.

How I Work

There’s no rigid programme or fixed schedule. Coaching fits around you and your horse, and sessions are as frequent or infrequent as works for you. Some of my clients ride with me regularly, others dip in when they need a fresh pair of eyes or a new focus, or perhaps to get to the bottom of what may be causing issues.

Either way, you’ll always leave with a clear idea of what to work on next and why it matters. It’s that ongoing relationship, the familiarity with you and your horse, and the understanding of where you’ve come from and where you’re heading, that makes the real difference.

In Print and On The Ground

I contribute regularly to national equestrian publications, speak at Dressage demonstrations, riding clubs and livery yards about the importance of using the correct tack and corrects training. and have published practical guides on Common Bit Evasions Bits For a Young Horse and Bits For a Strong Horse available on this website and through Amazon. That depth of research and passion for doing right by horse and rider informs everything I bring to my coaching.

You’re in safe hands in my coaching sessions, I hold my British Dressage Safeguarding Certificate and Equestrian First Aid qualification.

Vicky Morris

“I met Angela at her bitting clinic and she managed to teach my horse to accept the contact in one session. I continued with her coaching and we’ve progressed way beyond my expectations!”
